Meet The Artist
Veronica Johnny is a multi-disciplinary, Indigi-Queer artist, woman entrepreneur, and arts educator of Cree/Dene/mixed heritage. Ms. Johnny is a member of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation; was born and raised in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories and presently lives in Northern Ontario.
Veronica is a dynamic force in the Canadian music & arts industry, working as a performer, writer, arts educator, workshop facilitator, visual artist, producer, manager, promoter, and cultural knowledge keeper. Ms. Johnny is an emerging storyteller (both video and written forms) and is writing a documentary. Veronica founded The Johnnys, a multi-award nominated rock’n’roll band, with partner Dave Johnny. She’s the rhythm guitarist, lead singer and band manager.
Every benefit of increased name-recognition has consistently been channeled back into community projects, reflecting Veronica’s ongoing enthusiasm for helping youth, women and developing artists. Her efforts in arts education have grown exponentially. Veronica has worked with thousands of youths across Canada, in the last ten years, on issues of mental health, self-esteem, the Cree language, art, writing and cultural identity.
